    I'll take all that on board. I also have a box from Digital Tigers called 'Sidecar' which allows me to run 2 extra monitors from my other lappy, and I have had fan noise issues with that.

    Since it's out of warranty and relatively simple to open up, I'll have a go at that first, with all the steps you suggested.
