IMVHO, because before he was involved in exploration in Ecuador say 2006 - 2014 (and I think within DGR itself as D'Agualiar gold) they were exploring in the Pacific Basin (ring of Fire) for gold and copper mainly in Fiji & the Solomons. That means he has experience in the geology of Fiji that he can provide as a "Strategic Advisor" to Alice Queen who have leases in Fiji.
NM will freely tell you his experience with plate tectonics in the Ring and geological ages led him to Ecuador which often shows up in early slide presentations of SOLG. Waiken &/or Senderos will be able to tell you more. I was a relative latecomer.
