In my semi-educated opinion, the delay in news about the development of IMU/Merial PPE vaccine has been due to the unexpected (poor) results in trials of Mercks' adenovirus HIV vaccine. It was reported late last year* that the HIV vaccine (using a cold virus as vector) actually increased rates of HIV infection in treated subjects. It would be common sense for Merck/Merial to put a precautionary stop to all adeovirus vaccine (human and animal) work after that result. But every cloud should have a silver lining, and greater understanding of adenovirus vaccine function and behaviour will have been achieved from this research. Its better to identify, understand and fix a problem early on, and so on.
