the definately said the "no aqcuistive intentions" line.
But i reckon it actually means they are going to take it over at some stage. At that time they probably had no intentions to make a bid. Their intention was/is probably to wait for a reserve upgrade, at which point the risk is reduced and their intentions will change.
If they weren't planning a takeover at all they would have said something more along the lines of we are not going to take them over.
Subtle difference, but similar to what Bill Clinton used to say about Monica.
