I read this issue more broadly. If you think about our culture and our language, our stories, they drip with sayings from the Bible. In other words to fully understand many things in our every day life you really do need to know something of the content of the Bible. The books can be viewed as stories and lessons on life and those stories underly our society. So that is why I favour children learning something of the contents of the Bible, it is vital to our Society and its functioning. Religious belief does not have to come into it.
