Perhaps the lessons learned for me at least is that when a fund starts to underperform it's benchmark it's perhaps time to get out as it's hard to catch back up due to fixed investment mandates and ongoing fees.

For me two of the biggest myths in investing would have to be
- Set and Forget <- no such thing...
- Past performance is not an indicator of future performance <- yes it is !!!

Mine is to stay away from devout value or growth style managers.

I think in today's market you have to be agile and move with the times.

You can't have a manager who is hell bent on value - when you can have years, if not a decade, of that being out of favour.

I prefer a manager who recognises broader trends - and not just stubbornly settled on what they consider to be the only way to extract value.
