Yep , you're right Hawkers . The most recent median figure I can find is $57.5k from 2011 . Not sure why we use average for one thing and median for another ?
Having said that , the median weekly wage for a male is $1338 ($69567 ) for males vs $886 ( $46072 ) for females . Interestingly , for those between ages 45 to 54 it is $1587 ( $82524pa ) male and $1002 ( $ 52104 ) female.
I'm not saying that only males between 45 and 54 are buying houses but you can see that by looking into the data a bit harder , the story changes somewhat . That's why when people make broad statements with no backup I get frustrated.
