I've been doing a heap of research and truly believe that hydrogen and battery tech will become a Diesel / Petrol debate like today. Each have their merits
Battery will be great for local commuting in the CBD like the majority of 50km per day mums and dads (free to charge with solar installations) while Hydrogen will be planes/heli's/travellers/ miners/couriers/taxis/national transport/emergency services etc for little down time 24/7 deployment.
You can fill a tank in minutes and move on while a battery takes hours for a limited range and batteries aren't made for heavy lifting and specialised stations.
Battery tech has got the head start but in time hydrogen with enough backing has the power/weight advantage PLUS some once refined
