    There's always going to be some trade off between getting the optimal conditions and the time and cost taken to develop it. GDY are going for the optimal geological conditions, and time and costs keep getting blown out as a result - as do the shares on issue. PTR approach is to drill shallower, in softer rock, and closer to market, which means cheaper, more quickly and with less risk.

    The term "insulating" doesn't mean it carries no heat - PTR has demonstrated that heat flows can be very high (see ann 12th December). I'm no geo myself but presumably the BPT geos concur with the techniques they are using.

    Both approaches have merit but imo PTR will be first to market, but it will benefit the entire industry to have a commercially proven project. Having said that I still hold a few GDY and some GRK (largely for their Olympic Dam location). There's room for a couple when you consider how important this resource could prove to be.
