FB,
Yes, for Australia in general, red-tape is an issue.
We also have Native title, high labour costs, regulation of work environments etc.
As a result work conditions in Australia are better for workers than other countries (and that is a good thing) but multi-nationals will compare their profit margins in other countries like Namibia and favour mining there if they have a choice.
I believe international mining organisations place sovereigh risk in Australia as higher than Namibia. I believe Namibia was regarded as the second safest country to mine in thanks largely to the Namibian govt being so pro-mining.
So yeah, sell ERA, expand Rossing, makes sense for RIO I think.
Stayhere,
I looked at those drill resulsts and I thought how today we acknowledge them as great but there is no frenzy. In 2006/7 such results would have had the market going into orgasmic frenzy. Nevermind, stuff the market, the miners know what the pounds in the ground are worth, it is from them that we will get the money, not from the ASX traders.
Marben,
Your research is always excellent and the quality of discussion on the KAH thread is very high. I hope you're right, I hope we have multiple interested parties although a big boy like Areva is particularly interesting.
