    I attach a snap shot of part of the wikipedia page listing 18 parties banned in the Ukraine.

    You will see it was last updated in 2016. So this was before the current war but after the 2014 takeover and before the elections you refer to.

    Clearly the ban is not a wartime measure as you imply; rather it reflects how the current Ukraine government operates.

    Opposition parties exist but are regime approved which is unusual for a western democracy. In China 14 political parties appear to be banned so with 18 banned Ukraine is ahead.

    Your information source seems to be incorrect or are you just making things up.

    Nuland's speech was clearly about how the US was supporting the then current political developments in the Ukraine. There had been an earlier colour revolution in the Ukraine in 2004. Financing of colour revolutions seems to be a US speciality. Unfortunately the events following from Maidan are causing great loss of human lives and when the war is over it will be clear who has won.
