Maybe the loss of this big powerful ship is an indication of a change in how war is going to be fought in future. Weapons are getting smarter and big floating ships are becoming easier targets. Even big aircraft carriers will be hard to defend. Tactical nukes could take out a surface fleet. Smart drone subs and torpedoes exist. Fighter jets are under threat from advanced improved air defense systems. One F35 was damaged by a S200 Soviet era air defense system in Syria a few years back. The S400 is way more dangerous and may even be the reason the US does not want a no fly zone. Seems the S400 has the ability to learn the F35 stealth tricks and take it down.
Battle tanks have become very vulnerable to light hand held weapons.
Long range artillery is coming into its own and Russia has a big advantage there from what I have read. The range of the Russian artillery is much longer than the artillery the US currently has, and is sending to the Ukraine. The Russian 2S7 "pion" 203mm heavy artillery has a range of 37.5km to 55km. with a firing rate if 16 rounds per minute, depending where you read it. Their rocket systems longer. The US is developing artillery in this class, but not yet in service. US artillery being sent to Ukraine has range of 14-24k with much slower firing rate. They will be outnumbered, outranged and outgunned. Testing on the new US guns recently hit a target at 45km, but they yet available.
    Things are changing
