If you excluded anyone who can loose their jobs or get sick without enough income insurance to cover their debts then the Banks would be out of business in a heartbeat.
The Sub Prime mortgage crisis was ultimately caused by Banks lending to people who simply should not have been given loans,-.
The next problem came about when the Banks securitised these loans and on sold them to ( amongst others ) Australian local councils etc relying on the back of false assurances provided by Credit Agencies.
Ultimately the the first step in this process was unscrupulous Bankers
Books have been written on the subject and politics played a big part but ultimately the Bankers loaded the gun and fired not caring where the bullet went.
