Some reasons for doing that might be:
1) If you are a broker, or have a low $ trade cost.
2) if you want to manipulate the price of an illiquid stock up or down by selling a few shares to yourself.
3) If you have some CFD, options, incentives etc in your name, based on closing price or average closing price in an illiquid stock.
4) If you want to raise the price of an illiquid stock temporarily, to get your real order accepted into the market at a price far different from the last sale.
