They have to bid... they cant risk giving other bidders a free run to the NBN funding prize. While I have my doubts about Terria being able to fund NBN, the fact they are bidding means Singtel/Optus are serious about putting up most of the funding, be it equity or debt.
Didnt Telstra do the same thing with the $1b OPEL funding? They lobbed in a bid at the last minute & they lost. They chucked a tantrum after that so one would think they are not going to risk doing that this time round.....
