Australia's best and brightest go overseas for work (google Australian brain drain) this has been happening for decades especially in the research sector. Family friend who's a mechatronic engineer works for google in the states as the job opportunities just don't exist here beyond a certain level. IT got gutted here in the 90s/2000s as stuff got outsourced to India etc for cost cutting reasons. Most locals diversified into consultancy, no point being a developer if someone wants to pay you peanuts.

This is starting to change as a lot of IT especially mobile app development has been brought back onshore.

Majority of Australia's imported labour is not highly skilled. Thousands of visas granted for the hospitality industry because employers treat employees like shit so all they can attract is people from the 3rd world who will happily do the unpaid overtime asked by employers in order to live in Australia.

Early Kiyosaki is WELL worth quoting! Regarding housing, he states (from 30 years ago, "If You Want To Be Rich, Don't Go To School"):

'You need to own 4 houses - 1 to live in, 1 to pay your taxes, and 2 to live off.'

Excellent stuff, which no-one teaches you at school, at the pub, nor over the dinner table....for most people.
