Only because [some] people have progressed in that regard, not because the Quran, for example, no longer says these things. Plus, as claimed holy books, the Quran, the Torah, etc, are extremely poor examples of moral, ethical or decent values....you could try to argue that this was fine once upon a time, but you would fail.
That argument fails because these 'Holy Books' are supposed to come from God, the Creator of the Universe, and if this is reflection of the values that this ''God'' holds at any time or place, it is a God bereft of all reason and decency.
