Matter/energy is not God, yet it determines the formation of atoms, molecules, physical structures and their properties, etc, without any input from a creator.

You're right in saying matter/ energy is not God, but wrong in saying it "determines" the formation of anything. Atoms , molecules etc are composed of matter/energy that can be utilized but have no part to play in how that is done. That requires intelligence.
If the universe and our being alive in it are accidental, our lives can have no lasting meaning. But if our life in the universe results from design, there must be a satisfying meaning to it.
