A good knowledge of history is in my opinion a necessary requirement for all politicians as history is full of examples of great leaders who inspire and also and those that have led to disaster.
Those who use fear as a weapon also plot to destroy worthy and inspirational opponents.
A good leader understands that fear and favour may yield results in the short term but eventually their regime crumbles and collapses.
John Anderson the former Australian deputy prime minister is an example of a politician who is able to inspire people as he has a great grounding in history.
There are many others in Australia like Anderson and its up to us all to revere and encourage those sorts to become our leaders as we don't have much inspiration in politics nowadays.
But maybe that's the current state of the world were self interest predominates..
