    Historically a serious pandemic occurs about ever 25 years.

    AIDS was about 40 years ago so we should have expected COVID.

    SARS and MES occurred about 10 or so years and it was a wake up call that no one heeded as a spend of 1 billion would have had vaccines 10 years ago.

    An American company spent a few hundred million but when SARS only killed a few thousand people and the Middle East virus only a few hundred or so they stopped the vaccine production.

    If they had continued they would be one of the biggest companies in the world right now. The US government also backed off the Covid research--against the calls of scientists--- expecting it to be fairly benign.

    Given the world is warming and ecosystems are becoming unstable we can expect pandemics more often as the world population also grows.

    And we have little idea as to what China is doing!
