In the over 300 mass shooting incidents in the US this year, I have not heard of a single occasion where a member of the public involved shooting back or confronting the shooter.
It must be that all the thousands of innocent people involved in these incidents did not have guns to shoot back, or are they too frightened to shoot back.
Sure says a lot for the right to bear arms for self protection....
