"Aquinas maintains that a human is a single material substance.

wrong. the material can be touched & weighed. material is flesh, water, etc. human has substance that is immaterial, such as mind, that cannot be touched or weighted

He understands the soul as the form of the body

wrong. Xesus explained soul, spirit & body are different things.

which makes a human being the composite of the two

    wrong

Thus, only living, form-matter composites can truly be called human; dead bodies are “human” only analogously.

wrong. living has different levels. example, unconscious human on life support, due to continuing to breath. no mind function but life due to breath, which is material substance of wind

One actually existing substance comes from body and soul.

    non-sense

A human is a single material substance, but still should be understood as having an immaterial soul, which continues after bodily death.

mind is immaterial but dependent upon the body & its nervous system. when the nervous system degenerates, the mind degenerates

Ultimately, humans are animals; the animal genus is body; body is material substance. When embodied, a human person is an “individual substance in the category rational animal.”

    yes & so?

The body belongs to the essence of a human being.

wrong. 'human' comes from the word 'manus', which means to have a sophisticated mind. human is defined by rational thinking & intelligence

    In his Summa theologiae Aquinas clearly states his position on the nature of the soul;

    superstition, for sure

defining it as “the first principle of life.”

wrong. the 1st principle of life is 'breath', which is not mind

a new born child is life but its mind is extremely immature to the point of limited sense capacities & cannot think or speak but new born child is alive

    aquinis = ignorant

The soul is not corporeal, or a body; it is the act of a body.

wrong....what animates the body is energy, breathe, wind, heat, etc, which is why the body must breath & eat to live

because the intellect is incorporeal, it does not use the bodily organs, as “the operation of anything follows the mode of its being.”

wow. Aquinis is completely haywire here.

if the body is hungry or thirsty or must urgently go to the toilet, can the intellect function efficient

the intellect is actually generally the slave of the body

the many great scientific & technological advances of humanity are mostly in service of giving the body comfort & wellness, such as medicine

The human soul is perfected in the body

wrong. the human mind is perfected by its own wisdom but, yes, must function in a body

wisdom is actually perfected by seeing the minds own failings & imperfect nature

but does not depend on the body

wrong, as explained. mind in a hungry & malnourished body cannot function well and will become unconscious

, because part of its nature is spiritual

    wrong

In this way, the soul differs from other forms, which are only found in matter, and thus depend on matter. The soul, as form of the body, does not depend on matter in this way.

    wrong

The soul is not matter, not even incorporeal or spiritual matter.

mind is dependent on or a bi-product of matter, just like light is a bi-product of electricity or matter

to generate light, fuel, such as coal or wood is required

mind is like light. immaterial. but the fire & fuel are material

If it were, it would not be able to understand universals, which are immaterial.

intelligence is a mystery. but, as proven, it declines with the decay of matter & the nervous system

    enough of this old speculator
