the 'soul' is obviously the 'emotional heart' of the human being, that feels & generates sorrow, pain, happiness, love, hate, anger, fear, desire, etc
so the 'soul' is something that can be damned, afflicted & tormented in unhappiness, pain & suffering (hell) due to sinful behaviour or the 'soul' can be saved & made joyful by developing a pure spirit of clear consciousness
the spirit, with is the clear non-judging light of consciousness can save the soul
