People should be taking similar precautions for the flu just the same as they should coronavirus, its clearly more apt to kill them than the latter.

Looks like mortality rates for this are lower than SARS at around 2-3%, but transmission looks higher - though that may be as much as reporting being better now than with SARS.

Worth remembering that the containment response to SARS was horrendous as well, much worse than this time around. And the stock market was up in double figures six months after that outbreak. The threat of a pandemic is scary, and the media is inevitably going to treat it that way, but the panic is also inevitably much worse than the actual severity in every case since maybe the Spanish flu.
