Consider the thought that the brain is a sort of computer which collects information from a number of sources and creates some sort of brain memory model that we call reality.
In this case I perceived images (words) from your post on a computer screen via my eyes which my brain interprets by matching against stored memory and forms a "picture" with some sort of meaning. My brain processes the "picture" or information and produces a response by also using extracted stored memory which is communicated to you. This response ends up in the computer via my fingers on the keyboard which is checked (often imperfectly) by the brain via a similar process that interpreted your message in the first place.
There is little wonder that we often "talk" past each other.
