Thats quite a treatise Grovulent, thanks for sharing. I can think of alternative scenarios that dont involve continuing US hegemony, the most compelling one in my mind being a replay of the events of the 30's. A lot of current mainstream focus is on US actions during that time. But it was the UK that was the fading empire after WWI, and was battling similar issues the present US empire faces today. To me, the events between post WWI & today are eerie. Swap the UK & US then with the US & China today, and the symbiotic debtor/creditor relationship looks the same on the surface at least.
As for clowns in government - I can well see Obama getting caned in the next election. If the next 3 years are bad news for americans, they're going to be mad as hell & perhaps ready to hurt somebody.
