if you want to engage in a conversation, is there any need for insults? is that the best your mum raised you?
you say,
Dear Mr Gordon
Have you ever had an original thought - I think you are a computer in some Kingdom Hall.
I say,
was that necessary, did you really think it raised your point of view to a higher level?
you say
anti-Christ I would imagine is a state in which the values of Christ are undermined by materialism and prostitution of the arts and corruption of our governing bodies, including the churches. It is a state in contrast to the teachings of Christ - I'd say we are pretty much there now - though I'm not a Christian.
I say,
if you are not a Christian, why do you care what the Anti-Christ is, if you don't believe in a Christ (messiah) then how can you believe in an Anti-Christ?
That just doesn't make sense to me, why are you talking about the anti of something you don't think exists????
you say
As for God's name being Jehovah - well, I would imagine that God, the Creator or whatever title one uses, is beyond the kingdom of names. To imagine God is a creature to be named is extraordinary. The name Jehovah didn't come into use for some 50 years after the formation of the JWs. It is an imagined construct from a Tetragrammaton that is never pronounced. I don't have the least problem with JW using Jehovah, or anybody else for that matter. I do however resent the fact that JWs declare as a fact that this is the name of God when not one ounce of evidence for such a claim exists.
I say
Again, why should you care, they could call him Cyril for all you athiests care about.
you say
Now of course you are able to dismiss me out of hand because the devil made me say this. In a world crying out for unity, non JWs are worldly people and close association must be avoided. Yep, all good, just like Jesus avoided all non-followers. Oh wait there, he mixed with all sorts of people, what was I thinking. Get thee behind me satan
Wafflehead,
i'm not a Jehovah's witness, and i'm certainly not trying to avoid you, I would like to keep the conversation going if you genuinely want to learn something, (not converting, just if you want to learn how the other half thinks) just keep the conversation civil.
MrGordon is doing the best he can in trying to explain his faith, if you disagree with it,(and I do in some areas) then point them out objectively.
