    What advantage would a new bidder gain from launching an alternative offer before 8 June? I assume LGL only has to receive an alternative offer by 8 June to avoid the penality payments.

    If another bidder is out there (probably a big if) i'm sure their advisors will be recommending a last minute bid. no point in giving your competitors any advantage.
