is this a norm?

I live overseas and thinking to buy a property in Australia.

Recently I sent a general enquiry (email) for a property advertised on the internet. I expected an email for a reply.

I was surprised that the agents were actually called me on my cellphone, IDD, and all, to 'discuss' the property.

Is this a norm, or things are just getting a little desperate?
any other experience?
