From here and north, we get mainly summer rain. We don't get enough winter rain to grow a decent wheat crop, so we rely on stored water in our soil. We had a wet summer, so we have good soil water, so given just a bit of winter rain, we could grow a big crop.
South of here, it's more reliable winter rainfall country. It's bone dry, but the winter rainfall season should start soon. It's not uncommon for autumn to be dry. The rain needs to happen soon, as planting time is near or upon us.
Basically, the Aussie crop could be huge or tiny, depending on what happens till October. It's crazy even talking of what the crop will be now because no one has any idea.
