The company I work for has a "2 year part time policy" for people transitioning to retirement.
It works well for both parities as it allows mentoring of the the replacement person and provides a staged retirement path rather than cold turkey.
It also highlights to the company that they then have a two year window to ensure the skill sets are maintaned.
