    It is very hard to say wheter that is a good thing.

    Most home brands are manufactured by the same companies who make the branded products. If you read the small print on the packs you can easily find out.

    So the question arises about "quality"

    I have found no difference between home brands and the branded products.

    The price differences are sometimes enormous.

    Add to that that the price of branded products seems to increase through smaller packages or tins.

    I buy most staple goods through Aldi, which has its own range of suppliers and controls the quality rigorously.

    The use of Home brands gives many producers a way to break into economic volumes and so the overall effect on the supply side should be minimal.
