Whilst there would be some mineral exposure on the pit wall, Thats now full of water
it would be tiny compared to the surface area available between crushed tailings and sea water on a pier Thats no longer there and removed some decades ago.
The tailings came from the pit. The pit appears to be the source of contamination. There is water in the pit thats been there for a very long time. Id suspect the environmental agencies will want to know about it when it comes to safe discharge into the environment given this history and presence of pollution. Its the only way you can cert the wall after 30 years of being submerged
