A couple of things that have not been mentioned.
Finacial engineering started in the 70's
The US dollar was taken off the gold standard in the 70's.
Look at the financial mess we are in today and ask what has changed since then? Not alot in My opinion!
Its no use mentioning the 90's when talking about the root of todays problems!
