It was noted that when the aboriginals moved camp they took a firestick with them and when it looked in danger of going out they would light a fire to replenish it, a long chain of fires could be seen marking their path.
I read an article recently where early paintings of areas in northern Tasmania showed open grasslands and spreading trees, these areas are now dense rainforest. Old trees in this rainforest are large spreading trees and they would have needed open conditions to grow this way.
