Who are the "preservationists"? Even the Greens are keen on managing bush using indigenous land management practices.

NSW had the biggest bushfire preventive burns in years before the severe fires..... they can't burn all the bush - not enough forays to do the job, not enough funds, not enough appliances. ........ yet still we had the worst fires in Aus history.

The problem was the severe drought over several years, the extreme dryness (lowest humidity <10%) over the months preceding, with a warmer than usual winter and August westerly winds extending into Sept/Oct and getting worse as the fires grew. This was driven by the positive Indian Ocean Dipole event through Autumn/Winter.

This was global warming climate effect.

One point you make that no "aliens" will wag their fingers at us, but our children/grandchildren sure will.

It has been up to us to act on global warming since the Hawke Govt began the debate in the 80's. Howard stopped any mention/action of global warming and set the path for the conservatives to follow on after his loss of Govt and his seat. Six years of Labs set the nation up to achieve reduced carbon emissions and Gillard's Carbon Price was working with our emissions falling 10% before Abbott abolished this successful program.

@gearset .... we will weep for the damage done to Aus by the conservative Govts. Our grandchildren will suffer and their children will suffer worse than they.
