It's hard to say what caused the West Coast fires to become so fierce. We are told that global warming is just that....global. Why do some countries seem to escape catastrophic fires. The north island of New Zealand is nearly on the same latitude as NSW and Victoria yet we don't hear of any out-of-control fires there. It's supposed to be a global thing so why doesn't NZ seem to be subject to horrendous fires.
