"The federal Environment Department has ruled Shell's proposal to drill the Palta-1 deepwater exploration well in commonwealth waters 50km from the park did not require a full environmental assessment."

"Shell plans to drill to a total depth of 5650m from the surface of the ocean. The operation will last 60 days and is likely to begin next year."
