there is nothing Woolies can do to compete with a very robust Coles, regardless of CEO changes and the like.
they are trying desperately to improve supply chain inefficiencies.
Woolies will try to get same store sales into positive territory at all costs and this will involve a huge reduction in margin to lure customers back.
this is not rocket science and you will find that unless some sort of truce (cartel) is not implemented shortly, the profit margins of both will decline dramatically.
the ironical part is that Aldi will find it difficult to compete in the brave new world, so those extra customers going to Woolies and Coles could negate the profit margin slide just by sheer extra volume.
