    Wednesday 5 December 2007 - 07:48

    Jerry Nguwa---somewhere in Africa
Abdullahi Yusuf the somali Transitional Federal Government's President has been admitted in a nairobi hospital in 'critical condition'.
Today is a crucial a one for conflicts resolution in the Horn and Central Africa region as the U.S Secretary of State arrives in Addis Ababa. Her diary is fully booked and some of the key issues that will be discussed include, the current Somalia crisis, the FDLR in the D.R.CONGO etc.
The priority has been put on the deteriorating situation in Somalia. But one of the most remarkable absentee is the head of Transitional federal Government – TFG – Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed who was flown to Nairobi on Monday night and admitted to a Nairobi hospital on what was described as ‘critical health situation’ in wait to be transferred to London. Video footages of a the Kenyan NTV were showing him in good shape last Saturday receiving the accreditation of the new Kenyan Ambassador to Somalia. Let us note that he is a survivor of a liver transplant. He came to the limelight a few weeks ago when his long term aide and Prime minister Mohamed Gedi presented his resignation that he accepted as a relieve. Born in 1934, Abdullahi Yusuf will celebrate is 73th birthday on the coming 15th December. The president a former military officer has participated in many battles of the Somali history. In 1978 after a failed attempt coup to overthrow the then president Gen. SIAD BARRE, he escaped to Kenya and later to Ethiopia were he formed the SODAF that later changed to SSDF (Somali Salvation Democratic Front with the aim of ousting Siad Barre. It is the same SSDF that took him to the presidency of his native Puntland region. He held the presidency of Puntland from 1998 to 2001 when his term expired and was replaced by a newly elected Ali Jama. ABdullahi started an other military campaign against Ali Jama and managed to get back the Puntland top seat until October 2004 when he resigned to become the president of SOMALIA. He was elected by the Transitional Federal parliament that was based in Nairobi until early this year. Apart of escaping many assassination attempts he is also implicated in extrajudicial killings aimed to maintain his authority in the troubled Horn of Africa country. Backed by Ethiopia he still not have the full control of Somalia even though the Ethiopian army conducted a military campaign against the ICU-Islamic Courts Union -. The country is governed from the north western town of Baidoa.
After Gedi is Abdullahi Yusuf quitting the Somali leadership?
