    1. Russia did try to prevent this military operation. First in 2007 with Putin's speech, and maybe even earlier when Russia expressed a wish to join the EU. You think if Russia was setting up in Mexico, the US would not attack. They proved that with Cuba, just as Russia did with Georgia. All Russia wanted was for Ukraine to remain neutral and stop killing ethnic Russians.

2 Russia is no longer fighting for survival. They have won.

3, Although it is not over, I don't think Russian destruction is still a threat. Time to negotiate?

    4. Russian tactics seem to be defend the 20% of the Ukraine they hold and let the Ukraine army destroy itself against the impenetrable defenses they have constructed. It appears to be working.

    5. Russia has obviously been stockpiling arms since the 2014 coup. Ukraine has the manufacturing "might" of NATO behind them, yet they can;t keep up with Russian shell production.

    6. Sure they hold 20%, but it is Ukraine's resource and industrial belt. Russia now has Europe's largest nuclear power station and can now guarantee water supply to Crimea. Safety from genocide is now a fact in the Donbas. My guess is Putin will be satisfied with that unless something unforeseen happens. Time to negotiate, but Ukraine will lose the territory Russia holds.
