Very roughly, 4,700 should cost approx 250-500Million to employ each year,
What do they do ? You don't want or need that many software engineers to develop a software product. When writing software, it truly is a case of too many cooks spoil the both. Doubling the number of engineers does not double the productivity, in fact it can reduce.
At a pinch, 10 software engineers could develop a product like Lorenzo, 30 would be luxury. Add 10 testers/quality assurance, 2 managers, 5 documentation, 10 tech support.
That make about 50 or so engineers and support crew. For the sake of the argument, lets double that to 100.
What do the remaining 4,600 people do ?
