Deaths of four US soldiers in Niger spotlights shadow war in Africa
ISLAMIC State may be weak and losing ground across the Middle East by the day but fighters are still waging war elsewhere.
The United States and coalition forces now face a deadly battle in other continents including Africa with jihadists determined to carry out deadly atrocities.
The tragic death of US Sergeant La David Johnson, who was killed in Africa on October 4 along with three other soldiers, proves the battle with Islamic State is far from over.
Sgt Johnson, 25, Staff Sergeant Dustin Wright, Sergeant Bryan Black and Staff Sergeant Jeremiah Johnson were all killed on October 4 in Niger during an ambush carried out by militants believed linked to the Islamic State.
Their tragic deaths come almost a year after US Special Operations soldiers and air strikes drove IS militants from the Libyan stronghold of Sirte.
However, regional security officials and analysts told the Washington Postthis has seen fighters crossing into ungoverned areas of impoverished Niger.
The fighters are not only helping spread Islamist militancy, but according to the Postcreate fresh challenges for US forces in the region...
