I mean take it over. Yes, it sounds very extreme, but putting it directly under Western rule has got to be better than this constant meddling, stuff-ups, failed policies and playing sides off against each other than the US engages in currently.
If it's done Inca-style (where the people keep their culture) there would be relative peace for the normal civilians (ie those who just want to live their lives), any insurgencies can be crushed at source, and the security threat to the rest of the world largely ceases.
Of course, it would have to be done well, and I do have some doubts as to whether the US can do that
The alternative is the bubbling cesspit it is at the moment, a deadly source of grief and suffering for its own civilians as well as a security threat for the rest of the world.
