Mohammed lived 1500 years ago! Child marriage and marriage among cousins were the common practise of that time among all societies and religions. If you look up the common age of marriage among catholics in medivial Europe, you will find records of marriages among children that young. European royalty uptil the 18th centuary had practised early marriage for political reasons. So to condemn a man 1500 years later for something that was the common practise of that time is ridiculous.
I have to admit this though that every other major religion except Islam has had a reformist movement in the last 500 years that has brought it out of the dark ages. Christianity, without Martin Luther would have sounded just as archaic as wahabi or the salafist islam.
