Perhaps the incentive is to dispute a non-factual statement claimed by an alleged fraudster to distance yourself from a pariah and speed up the decline of the SP, should there be a glimmer of interest in acquiring cheap assets.
Just racking my brain for possibilities - I do not rule out what you have said. In any case I think without knowing for sure it's anyone's guess........
