Jlov3, I am all for Australian jobs for Australian workers first and foremost, but but but when the costs creat a blow out scenario, the major Gorillas such as, Chevron, Shell and Woodside foe example, start to cancel projects, start finding alternative methods such as FLNG or simply start looking overseas.
All of the above is because Australia over prices it's self out of an economically viable business due to cost blow outs, wages and union induced strikes being some of the prime reason for the Gorillas to reassess their options.
This circumstance may not implicate on the likes of you and me, but the knock on effect will implicate on your kids and their kids, the jobs will not be as plentiful because they (gorilla) have either closed shop or purposefully found alternative measures to reduce workforce involvement.
For the record, I am oil and offshore professional and have been for well over 20 years.

gorgon is over budget and over time not because of the labour force but because of chevron. and chuck in safety alongside that. it was chevron who decided on the rates in the first place. getting anything done there is a nightmare especially with quarantine and customs involved.
