This is wrong. A few weeks ago New York Public radio decided to clear up misunderstandings of middle east history by broadcasted four 1 hour shows with two of the worlds leading history proffessors, one Arab and one Jewish, from Cambridge and Oxford. Professors Bernard Wasserstein and Yezid Sayigh agreed on almost almost everything with a couple of small exceptions.

One thing that they BOTH agreed is that there is no compelling evidence that Israel was going to be attacked when Israel initiated the so called "preemptive" war of 1967.

Furthermore an American spy ship, USS Liberty, which was in international waters near the combat zone was destroyed by Israeli planes and gunboats killing 18 US naval officers. The ship was evesdropping on Israeli military communications. Obviously Israel was terrified that the Americans might hear something incriminating, possibly learning that 1967 was a Israeli ruse to steal land from their neighbours regardless of the cost in innocent lives.
