The massive difference between apartheid and Israel and the reason that I protested against the former but support the existence of the latter is that South Africa was at no time under impending existential attack from its neighbours.
Had Rhodesia, Mozambique etc been trying to wipe SA off the face off the earth and had the Zulu and Xhosa been allied to them then the SA govt would have been more than within its rights to defend itself. It was under no such threat and so apartheid was rightly condemned.
Were the Palestinians to accept any of the multiple peace offers they have been given then there would be no discrimination against their spouses as there would be no risk of them becoming the latest in an abhorrently long line of suicide bombers.
The protest against mixed marriage you refer to was a protest against a marriage of assimilation, not a 'mixed marriage'.
If an Islamic male wanted to convert to Judaism for love then there would be no protests and much rejoicing. Unfortunately I am unaware of this happening, either in Israel or indeed in Australia. I have asked around this afternoon. Please enlighten me if you have an example within your circle of acquaintances.
With your apparent knowledge of SA politics you will surely be aware of the following quote "If you want to make peace with your enemy, you have to work with your enemy. Then he becomes your partner."
Hamas will never, ever do this and, as such, are the biggest obstacle to peace. If the Palestinians genuinely wanted peace they would have it by now.
