@Sweetsound - I am trying to wean myself off HC! it's too painful. One never knows what secret agendas are at work with some people, or even if the are paid agents of one sort or another - one doesn't have the time to check everything for truth or lie, and I don't have the thick skin to accept insults and often lies from some people. I have plenty of life experience, but seem to have plenty of failed judgments on here. So: is HC a waste of time?
Re wars: I have only ever read one book about wars, and it was about WWI - by an Englishman - and it was called 'The Sleepwalkers' - excellent book, confirmed things I had heard from my parents, who weren't well educated, just working-class people trying to survive, with no job for my Dad for years, and my Mum scrubbing floors and cleaning just so they could eat. This was in between the wars.
The Sleepwalkers was excellent - from memory - but was much maligned by some journalists. However I'll check out your recommendation, when I feel a bit better - atm I am still in need of rest, and also have to listen to a very sick man, daily, on the phone (phew, thank goodness!) and try and cheer him up. He is my old friend 'NoBoDe' who used to post on here but is now paying the price for a life-long addiction to cigarettes as well as alcohol - his lungs are gone, So sad, he had a beautiful voice, and I have one of his favourite songs as my telephone signal, albeit sung by professionals - Reet Petite!)
Re what is going on now? I have given up to second-guess the madman's or should I say 'madmen's next moves - one thing is for sure, it will never be what you expect from sane people.
War as entertainment on our nightly TV screen? It almost seems that way - but truly sad - we are in danger of losing our humanity.
Take care
